Since 1974, the Cheddar Box on Front Street in Dillsboro has been
a sought out destination for homemade fudge, hand rolled cheese
balls as well as gourmet food, jams and jellies.
Built around a century old cabin, the Cheddar Box houses much more than sugar and spice.
Among the teddy bears, candles and cookbooks, a smiling face greets all who enter the rustic shop.
"I make it a point to be friendly and talk to everybody,"
owner Sue Stafford said. "Owning this shop has been a great
opportunity to meet so many people."
The Cheddar Box has been a family owned and operated business for a decade, as Stafford co-owns the store with her mother, Joyce Streicher. The family environment has not only created a homey ambience in the store, but has given Stafford the freedom to be more involved with her three children.
"My kids have grown up in this store," Stafford said.
Stafford's daughter, Katie, also has had a chance to make an imprint
in the shop by featuring her handmade jewelry and ornaments in "Katie's
Corner."
With family appeal, the Cheddar Box offers a little something for everyone.
