Finding a friendly face with helpful information when relocating
is easier than you may think at the local libraries in Jackson County.
A wide range of materials can help the transition whether you are looking for local history, quick access to recreational opportunities, or cultural spots for art or restaurants.
The Jackson County Public Library in Sylva will be finding a new home in 2009, and its expansions will be housed in a two-story building connected to the historic 1914 Old Jackson County Courthouse.
The expansion will be a significant increase from the 6,400 square feet to
26,000 square feet, allowing services and programs to further assist
the community's quality of life.
In 2006, the Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library expanded
doubling its original size from 6,000 square feet to nearly 12,000
square feet and since has been referred to as the"heart of
the village of Cashiers."
With over 30,000 items including books, movies VHS, DVDs, CDs, audio book
tapes, children's books, and magazines, the library offers free
internet with wi-fi availability as well as shows movies monthly.
With the expansion came new services allowing the communities gathering place to offer a more sophisticated space as its large community room has theater lighting, stage and dressing rooms.
Additional smaller rooms complete with a fireplace, sofas and free coffee supply comfort and peace.
The library in Cashiers is open year round and offers a wide range of programs
for adults and children from preschool story times to the writer's
groups to bridge games.
Local artists' pieces are on display while members of the community care for
the Friendship Garden courtyard surrounding the library.
