Recently celebrating their 30-year anniversary, the Well House
Deli located at Dillsboro's Riverwood shops, has been "serving
perfection since 1977."
Mike Dillard has owned the deli for 14 years out his 24 years
of working for the establishment, and his favorite aspect of the
traditional deli restaurant is "being consistent."
"We try to buy the best of breads, meats and cheeses,"
Dillard said.
Both lunch and dinner menus feature the Well House's signature
items such as their cashew chicken salad and the prime rib.
Their lunch menu includes sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts, while their dinner menu offers a variety of choices from potato boats to chicken with saffron rice.
As you enter the restaurant, you'll find the hand dug well located in the
right corner marked with a humble sign of explanation.
The well was hand dug in the early 1880s to supply water for Dillsboro's first
home owned by William Allen Dills, whom the town is named after.
The original bucket, riggings and bricks are intact as the approximate 50-foot well still provides water for occasional irrigation of plants.
"The well is definitely part of the atmosphere here,"
Dillard said.
Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays.
For a box lunch or special occasion, the Well House has the taste with a little history for you.
